Bagsvaerd Church interior with soft concrete vaults

Completed in 1976, Bagsvaerd Church is one of Jorn Utzon's clearest studies in contrast. From outside, the building is controlled and almost industrial; inside, the concrete vaults soften into a ceiling of reflected daylight.

The project is useful because it shows atmosphere being made through restraint. The section does the work: light is gathered, bounced, and held until a simple room begins to feel expansive.
